Civic Engagement Video/Survey

Image
The video revolving around cvic action made me realize how many of these issues need to be solved and made aware. its always good to encourage others to vote and engage in their community for the better. It could be spreading awareness or volunteering in local youth centers. I feel like if I had the motivation I would definitely try to engage more and be ask my peers to engage as well. Taking care and improving a community is also up to those who live around it and are willing/aware to help with the cause. I feel as if people began becoming more aware of things going on around them, they would be inspired to cooperate and devote some of their time to improving conditions to truly make our community the best it could be.

Watch a film or documentary (AC-1)

Image
Points: 5  The 13th is a film that revolves around the history of racial inequality. I like how the film involved the history of the issue and not just events that unfolded in the present times. The produces really informed me on this issue in more ways than I can say. It also brings up interesting points such as even though slavery was abolished in the 1860s, it connects the thirteenth amendment to the prison industrial complex. Where African-Americans are arrested for minor crimes and taken to prison simply to do free labor in order to get economic gain. This film made me realize just how corrupt any government can be so corrupt just for their benefit and made me question just how far they are willing to go, specially when it comes to people of different race other than white.

two TED talks on the same subject (SI-3)

Image
Points: 10  https://youtu.be/WyprXhvGVYk What are the most important moral problems of our time?  “I estimate we thereby saved over 60 million lives. Thats more lives saved than if we’d achieved world peace in the same time period”  https://youtu.be/Czg_9C7gw0o Is Social Media hurting your mental health?  “My life is social media: personality, professionally, and academically. If it was doing this to me? What is it doing to everyone else?”  Both of these TED talks speak around subject revolving around things that are social issues. We all have personally experienced with these two subjects and mine is just like any other. I began comparing myself to the concept and illusion that social media labeled to be beautiful. I have always been a taller girl with a wide back, rib cage, and broad shoulders. My body is more on the masculine side in my opinion and I began to compare myself to the women that are stereotypically depicted as beautiful. They are beautiful, but i DIDNT believe

help someone register to vote (DE-2)

Image
Points: 5  Being able to make a choice in your countries future is a big deal, being able to help my father register to vote was a good day. In my experience, this made him more excited to vote since he was finally able to. Many people don't care about whether they vote or not, specially this year. We both understood that both candidates were not the ideal, but we chose what we thought was right. The process was easy and he was patient throughout the entire thing. He filled out a physical form and got it mailed, the same way I registered. The instructions were clear to me when I was helping him fill it out.

Slavery Footprint (ES-7)

Image
Points: 5 The Slavery Footprint test had me reconsidering everything I have ever bought. The idea of people and even children being force or enslaved to work in corrupted industries that don't pay fairly sets me off. People should no longer working in harsh conditions or not being paid for the work they actually applied for, it isn't humane and I'm glad that I took this quiz. This has brought me more awareness towards an issue that I rarely think or talk about during political discussions. I believe that I will try my best to avoid companies that follow these conditions or bring more awareness to the issue when it comes to civil discussions. If more people understood this issue then perhaps these companied would go out of business or there would be more voices in support of these workers being treated fairly in their work environment.

Citizenship Test (DE-27)

Image
Points: 5 Taking this test gave me a piece of what many people need to learn in order to become citizens. I personally believe that the questions presented to me along this quiz are fair, if they are remotely anything similar to the test people need to take for the real thing. As a student and child of a Spanish speaking father who has taken the test, I can understand that it could be difficult to completely understand a language that isn't your own. I believe that being considerate of participants is a factor to taking these tests and making sure they have the time to answer each one since most of them most likely are learning the language to prove themselves.

Registered Voter (DE-1)

Image
Points: 5 Registering to vote was probably a very important moment in my life, solely because it's a way for me to help make a change at my age. The registration process was quite easy to be completely honest, I was able to do it at my high school before the pandemic so I had teacher assistants guide me with any questions I had. I was nervous most of the time because I didn't want to get anything wrong, but I just made sure to double check with them. Filling out the form was understandable in my opinion and didn't need much documentation from what I remember, it was fast and simple.

Miami Water Keepers quiz (ES-6)

Image
Points: 5 Water is a main source of all life and makes up most of the earth. Being able to preserve water and keep it clean can help improve health of not only people, but of the environment. Lowering the usage of plastic bottles and invest in thermases or reusable cups will help improve the environments plastic problem, while restraining from pouring foreign liquids into water can also reduce the risk of contamination and putting others in a health risk. I think filtering water could somehow help water consumption and as well fining people caught pouring odd substances into water that could potentially ruin someones health.
